About BF Corgi

Family-raised, health-focused, and dedicated to the breed we love.

At BF Corgi, we are dedicated to raising exceptional Pembroke Welsh Corgis with a focus on health, temperament, and lifelong companionship. All of our Corgis are AKC or CKC registered and health tested to ensure genetic soundness and overall well-being.

We begin foundational training and enrichment at just 3 weeks of age. As a family of 6, our puppies are raised in a loving, hands-on environment with daily interaction and exposure to the sights and sounds of everyday life.

Why Corgis?

"I didn't spend my time in the library the same way other kids did. I always went straight for 'The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Dogs.'" Corgis are smart, affectionate, loyal, friendly, cuddly, great with kids, and just plain fun.

Why Buy From BF Corgi?

We're not here for the money — we're here because we're passionate about what we do. Our Corgis are bred to be more than companions; they become your best friends. We are not a puppy mill, we don't push breeding, and if our girls don't naturally tie, we don't force it.

All 4 of our dogs live together and sleep in the house with us. They're family.

Our Puppy Training & Development Program

We believe the foundation for a happy, well-adjusted Corgi begins in the first few weeks of life.

Starting at just 3 days old and continuing through the first two weeks, we use ENS exercises to help improve stress tolerance, cardiovascular health, and immune system.

Between 3–8 weeks of age, we introduce puppies to textures, surfaces, smells, and gentle handling.

Gradual exposure to vacuums, doorbells, thunderstorms, and children playing, at increasing volumes.

Puppies are exposed to people of all ages, including children, and gently introduced to other friendly dogs and cats.

Beginning around 3 weeks old with gentle name recognition, following humans, and basic commands like "sit" and "come."

Starts around 3 weeks of age, teaching puppies to use a designated potty area.

Gradual, positive-reinforcement crate training to prevent separation anxiety in the new home.

Sitting for attention, no jumping, and waiting patiently for food.

Understanding Corgi Genetic Health Testing

What DM, EIC, VWD1, and IVDD actually mean — and why "two copies" matters.

Clear, Carrier, or Affected — what "two copies" means

Most of these conditions are autosomal recessive, meaning each puppy inherits one copy of a gene from each parent. A dog needs two copies of the mutation — one from mom, one from dad — to actually be affected by the disease.

Clear: 0 copies — will not develop the disease and cannot pass it on.
Carrier: 1 copy — healthy and unaffected, but can pass the gene to puppies.
Affected: 2 copies — will develop the condition.

This is why responsible breeders test both parents before pairing them — two carriers can still produce affected puppies, even though neither parent shows any symptoms themselves.

🧬

DM — Degenerative Myelopathy

A progressive spinal cord disorder, similar to ALS in humans, that typically shows up between ages 6-11. Recessive — a dog needs two copies to be affected.

🏃

EIC — Exercise-Induced Collapse

A neuromuscular condition where affected dogs can develop a wobbly, uncoordinated gait after 5-20 minutes of intense exercise. Recessive — same two-copy rule applies.

🩸

VWD1 — von Willebrand Disease I

An inherited bleeding disorder — affected dogs have less than half the normal clotting factor. Recessive, so one clear copy from either parent protects the puppy.

IVDD — a different kind of test

Intervertebral Disc Disease works differently than the three above. It's linked to the same FGF4 gene responsible for the short-legged corgi build itself, and the inheritance pattern is dominant, not recessive — meaning even one copy has an effect, and research suggests two copies is associated with a higher risk of disc disease later in life. It's less of a simple pass/fail test and more a risk factor we watch and discuss openly with families.

Understanding Tail Docking

Transparent, responsible, and thoughtful. We let you choose.

Almost all Pembroke Welsh Corgis are born with full-length tails. Tail docking is a cosmetic choice — not a requirement.

Our Policy: We do not automatically dock tails. If you wish to have your puppy's tail docked, you must let us know by Day 5 after birth.

Many companion Corgi owners today choose to keep the natural tail — either way, we're happy to support your preference. Just let us know early so we can plan accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your puppies socialized?

Yes! Our family has 4 children (ages 2–12), and our Corgis love being around kids. We also have cats and other dogs — growing up around them helps our puppies feel comfortable with other animals from the start.

Due to their sensitive immune systems as puppies, we don't expose them to animals or people outside our home until they're ready to meet their new family.

Are they registered?

Yes! Each puppy comes with a limited AKC or CKC registration. Full registration is available on request for serious breeding prospects.

How much is the deposit?

Standard Corgis: $350 deposit
Long-haired Corgis: $500 deposit

We accept cash, or online payments through Good Dog, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal. Deposits are nonrefundable to ensure every puppy has a committed home.

Why do some Corgis have tails?

Almost all Pembroke Welsh Corgis are born with full-length tails. We don't automatically dock tails — it's your choice. See our Tail Policy above.
